Reflection

EXPERIENCE
Starting off the module was a bit overwhelming at first, especially while learning about typographic rules. I did however find the history to be quite interesting, and eventually developed a liking to Typography. While I enjoyed most of the tasks, I sometimes found the nature of Typography to be a bit restricting for my taste (perhaps because of the specifics of alignment and heavy attention to detail). Simultaneously though, all the eye strain and finger spasms (from adjusting anchor points ahah) has been well-worth it, since I've developed several useful skills. My overall experience with Typography has been a very humbling one, and I'd just like to raise a glass to this heavily underrated art form!

OBSERVATION
Not gonna lie, I found myself getting very frustrated while doing the tasks. I felt unhappy about my work more than half the time and often got fixated trying to perfect the tiniest of details. Completing the tasks however, and seeing my typeface in particular felt very satisfying. I also observed that I paid a lot more attention to the usage and choice of type in everyday media and wondered how I would've approached it. I have also been pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it has been to look at and study different typefaces online.

FINDINGS
The more I learn about Typography, the deeper my respect for it continues to grow. Deconstructing letterforms in particular was a mind-blowing experience as I had never considered how the minute details all worked together to create a visually harmonious letterform. It helped bring into perspective just how much effort is put into creating even a single letterform. It's also made me realise how much I still have left to learn, and I am quite excited! Personally, I've come to the conclusion that the beauty of Typography lies precisely in the nuances and subtlety.
