Feedback

Week 2

Specific:
  • Focus more on animation rather than media as a whole.
  • Avoid using the word ‘impact’ as it requires quantifiable/measurable outcomes.

Week 3

General:
  • Critical reviews should not be looked at individually. Synthesise main findings and themes from them to create discussion for lit review

Reflection

Experience

Since most of our groundwork was done in the research methodology module, things were easier to write. Also, since our tutors also implemented a step-by-step approach to writing our dissertation, it felt relatively less overwhelming by comparison. While I can't say critical writing (especially in a timely manner) is my strength, it has been an eye-opening experience. I most definitely did falter mid semester, and regrettably didn't make the best use of the ample feedback opportunities that were provided to us.

Observation

I am not a fast worker, so I found myself struggling to keep up with interim deadlines  towards the middle of the semester, and missing feedback sessions from then onwards. Tackling the chapters of our dissertation in a sequential manner however definitely made it easier to synthesise my research topic. The literature matrix in particularly is such a great way to understand some core parts that make up your research.

Findings

I definitely discovered several flaws and limitations in my research findings. For one thing perhaps my topic was a bit broad, and for something of the nature of audience perceptions and body image which are highly subjective, having a small sample is bound to create some inaccurate or biased results. Thus we can't really generalize things to the broader population. But hey, going through the (gruelling) process of academic research and learning from our mistakes is key right? Apart from that, it may be that I have to reduce the amount of modules I take in a semester so that I can effectively meet deadlines and participate proactively in class.
