Pose to Pose Animation

1. Key Pose
The storytelling drawing or the main idea
E.g. Idea 1 Walk ---> Idea 2 Pick Up ---> Idea 3 Write

2. Extreme Pose
Poses that connect key poses to complete the action. Among the extremes, one of them could be a key.

3. Breakdown Pose
  • Middle pose that sits between extreme poses
  • Used for:
    • getting flexibility
    • creating arc
    • dividing between slow in and slow out
4. In between Pose
Poses that show slow in and slow out

Straight Ahead Animation

  • Better for unpredictable actions e.g fire, water particles, smoke, explosions
  • Also good for overlapping action e.g. hair, floppy ears, tails

Walk Cycle

  • Start with 3 simple drawings
  • First the two contacts
  • And the middle or breakdown.
  • The middle position utterly changes the walk, so add variations (or spice) by experimenting with this
